2023 Soloist Fall Augustine Holman
Augustine Holman, Violin
Augustine Holman’s musical journey began on Whidbey Island when he was two years old. Inspired by classically-trained violinist Swil Kanim’s music festival performance, Augustine begged to play the violin for four years. At the age of six, he joined Lisa Humphrey’s School of Music in Bellingham. Since then, his musical experience has included Suzuki Institutes, the Bellingham Youth Chamber Players, the Sehome High School intermediate and chamber orchestras, and Chamber Days. He joined North Sound at 11 as a Philharmonia player, then advanced to the Symphony where he studied with James Ray and now studies under Grant Donnellan. As an 8th grader during the Covid shutdown, Augustine orchestrated and performed a benefit concert, raising $1000 for a local nonprofit organization.
Augustine has received All State Honors from the Washington Music Educator Association and will be performing in the All State orchestra in February 2024. In June 2023, he was offered a Second Violin Substitute position in the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra. He has played in each concert since then.
Augustine attends 12th grade at Whatcom Intergenerational High School and participates in the Running Start program for music at Whatcom Community College. For his senior project, he is journaling and publishing an in-depth testimonial titled “How the Alexander Technique and the Musician Can Improve Performance and Emotional and Physical Wellness.” His college intentions include double-majoring in music performance and chiropractic or osteopathic medicine.
